Just doing it

01 March 2006

Today I stumbled on this guy's musings about photography [link]. In it he says:

It's interesting (and a bit sad) that when you look at what is commonly called fine-art photography it always comes with a statement, which typically contains some sort of explanation or motivation for the photography. You never get to see something like "I just wanted to take some beautiful photos" or "I liked the way those rubble piles looked, so I took a bunch of photos."

So, um, hi. My name is Margaret and I take photographs because I think they're pretty (although, it's downright debatable how "fine-art" my photography is). Without actually posting any of the 18 other paragraphs just written and promptly deleted, I'm going to not only endorse, but encourage, this behavior. I mean, how else are ya gonna learn?

My friendly advice for the day: do something you love for no logical reason.

You'll sleep better for it.

I used to eat only the orange & purple Skittles for no logical reason and it didn't make me sleep better.

Darn.

Back to swatting mosquitoes.

Oh, and I enjoyed eating just the orange & purple Skittles for no logical reason...

I agree... Take pictures for you, and nothing else. Who needs a cause. To me, it's all about just getting out and enjoying taking pictures. No cause, I do it just because I enjoyt it.

I agree their may be a shitload of flower pictures on my photoblog but fuck it it's my photoblog. And as a matter of fact I do put things like...I took it because it's pretty....fuck all that ancient motivational shit.
