Well. I had intended to leave up this past blog entry for a while to let people think about what they might want to get out of this website. In the meantime, I stopped off at the video store and picked up the movie Fahrenheit 911. Not because I'm a Republican. Not because I'm a Democrat. But because I'm an American citizen who wants to know more from every angle. I want to make an informed decision. And now I've decided I'd rather you think about this movie than some silly approaching-30 woman who had a "bad day".
Like most of my peers, I'm undecided as to who I'm voting for because - let's face it - it's the worse of 2 evils.
But then I rented this movie.
I'm not a mother, I don't even personally know anyone who's been involved in the war, and I cried at this movie. I cried, and cried, and cried. I haven't been able to cry in months even through all the personal troubles I've been dealing with. Watching this movie made me cry. I am absolutely, unequivocally horrified. I almost feel like I want to vomit at all the horrible things presented in this film. And you know what, to anyone quick to jump on the Bush bandwagon and tell me what a great guy he is and how this movie only presents one side of the story, I ask you to please watch this movie cuz duh. Of COURSE Moore presents a side of the story - a side that no one has been informed of previously. Watch the movie out of acceptance for other people's right to voice their opinions. Their right to present facts ANYONE can easily look up themselves if they choose to.
I am not undecided any longer. I am not voting for Bush.
PS,
Do NOT decide not to watch this film out of fear or for any excuse for that matter. The subject matter is relevant to everyone.
PPS,

Bush has to go, definitely, though obviously I'm unable to influence that way over here in England. I've never liked the little prick, but then I've always been left of centre politically (when younger, I was passionately Socialist, now just happy to be moderately left wing).
But then you're intelligent, passionate about things, caring, emotional, and you're an artist - I'd have eaten my own hat if you'd have voted Republican!
Not that I have a hat, you understand.
Oh - and what I want to get out of this website is your cheerful (and sometimes not so cheerful) outlook on life - with a few jokes thrown in for good measure!
So quite frankly it's currently perfect.
I'd like to add that the majority of this film is not based all on Moore's opinions. There are a lot of interesting facts that one could look up and research themselves if they felt the need to challenge what is being presented. It is very scary to see what can be created when a corrupt politician and the media work hand in hand. Just ask anyone who has a friend or family member who is either in Iraq or who has died in Iraq.
My point: Just watch the damn movie and think before you vote.
So many people dismissed this movie as lies and propaganda without seeing it or even knowing anything about it. The fact of the matter is that every single thing in this film is rooted in fact. People might not like the way Moore put the film together, but it doesn't change the basic truths of the documentary.
It's certainly a hard movie to watch. The first five -10 minutes practically had me in hysterics, let alone the rest of it.
I'd also highly recommend reading this opinion piece from a Reganite on Salon.
And not to toot my own horn but I have an extended commentary on it coming up.
p.s. It's pretty much every reason why not to vote for Bush.
ok, I am not leaning one way or the other in my intentions on voting, but really people. We really need a better reason to vote for Kerry other than just not to vote for Bush..........just saying, what do we really know about kerry that is SO much better than bush.........lesser of two evils.....kinda weak really.
oh.......
Where is Jessie Ventura when you need him....lol
You know what, I'll be completely honest with you here.
The simple fact that Kerry has not sent thousands of people to their death under the pretense of huge lies is a good enough reason for me. I can NOT, in good conscience, vote for someone who sent people like my brothers to their death. And then lied about why he did it.
I just can't. I love my family.
And when you take a close look at Bush's record on issues that are cose to true Republican values like balanced budgets and minimal governemental intrusion into people's lives you'll notice that Bush is about as Republican as he is a Rhodes Scholar. If anything he's turning the federal governement into a fundimentalist Christian babysitter.
ok based on that argument then what would be the problem? Couldn't you say then kerry would just a clone of bush?
Nobody still has told me why to vote for kerry, only that I shouldn't vote for bush.
All I am saying is that if past performance is best indicitive of future performance the basis of vote for change just doesn't hold water. Now if you say vote for kerry because his past performance on xyz would be good for the country then that would be a logical argument that I could get behind.
It's called being PROACTIVE. You need to stop a situation that you know will be bad before it happens.
If you are even *considering* who to vote for, then you need to quit depending on other people to provide you with answers. Go out and look for some truth and decide based on that. This is not a pissing match or a board game. This is the future of our lives, our children's lives, and everyone else on the planet who has been and will be affected by the actions of the US and its leaders.
Hey youngest sibling. If I movie like Fahrenheit 911 can sway your choice on who to vote for.....lets go rent Fahrenhype 911 which actually interviews alot of the same people, but lets them finish their statements. Sad to make a final choice because of movie and listening to one persons view on the matter. Of course hes going to blow situations out of proportion.
Wow.
Well... Who here has seen the movie? Bueller? Bueller?
Who here has done research of their own in to BOTH parties?
BINGO! people pick their sides and close an ear to what others have to say. America is becoming close-minded.
This week, the company I work for allowed a local union to put up a sign for one of the parties in front of my store. We cater to unions. For 3 days now, my employees have been getting harrassing calls, and threats even though none of my employees or company choose to partake in the advertising of our political views. One threatening call came in and *69 was pressed to find out the incoming call. Police notified and they said they will be confronting this individual. Nothing at this point is taken lightly. Alot of BS activity to decent people. Our country is going to end up like the countries over-seas. Ruthless. I don't care who you vote for...but keep your ears open to what the other side is doing and most of all the effect of this whole political SHIT is causing on the American people.
Le Serial Cynica if you can say that I am not being "PROACTIVE" by listening to all the reteric, couldn't I say that your not being "PROACTIVE" by not finding out who is replacing the man you are trying to outst, or that you are not being "PROACTIVE" by finding out the flipside of all the negitive stuff put out on Bush.
I think we all need to switch to de-caf here.
